JEFFORY MORRIS
Artist & Curator
Autobiography
Jeffory Morris was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on Thanksgivings Day 1963 then abducted and raised in 21 homes over the next 18 years by a family of traveling eccentrics. He eventually escaped across the frozen northern plains to receive a university bachelor degree in visual art. The oldest of four children, he is no stranger to fidelity and general aspiration to do things in his own way. At 21, he co-founded a ground-zero art gallery, before trekking to the desert, to become a curator to a vibrant Sonoran art scene where he was given privileged exposure. During this time he began to paint interiors, the inside of himself. After five years, he exiled himself to the edge of the world, Cape Cod, where found a home in Provincetown. Always finding joy and the unexpected, he gathered, displayed and boxed local history, while continuing to provide evidence of his interiors on paper and canvas. After 13 years of outer cape beauty and with growing verve, Jeffory moved back to the Southwest desert to attempt new public artistic challenges and to prove that the arts are for everyone to enjoy and partake. Jeffory is accompanied on his never-ending wander by his love, Marie.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Art is attracted to me. It sticks and accumulates at an amazing rate. It helps to mix it all into my daydreams and with a gentle force save it onto paper and canvas: to voice the visual.
